This week I’m blogging over at Club31Women about a simple morning routine that was life-changing for me. Here’s an excerpt. I hope it encourages you!
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence,
there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16: 11 ESV
A few years ago, I realized that often when I woke up and began to think about my day, I became discouraged. There was no prevailing reason, simply a feeling of dread followed by guilt for feeling this way.
If you are the parent of small children, you probably don’t have the luxury of thinking before you get out of bed. More likely you have a wailing baby or a toddler jumping on you with lots of demands! Others of us have reached the season when we do have a few minutes to awaken and the time to contemplate. It can be a moment of rejoicing or a moment of feeling blue. It depends upon our focus.
I began to see that my mental default first thing was discouragement. Sometimes it was stress over a long list of “to-dos,” or fear for a child, or worry about a decision, or simply dread about the events ahead.
I knew that God did not want me to approach His day like this but what was I to do?
Paul gives us guidance in Romans 12:2.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (ESV)
How would I go about renewing my mind?
