I really don’t like New Year’s resolutions. Why? Because I usually make lots of promises that I am not able to live up to. So often my list contains things that have been on it before, things I never managed to do throughout the whole year. It becomes a list of defeats.
Now this doesn’t mean that I don’t have goals for the New Year or for my life. Goals are good things. I simply rebel when it comes to New Year’s resolutions.
So this year instead of making up a list of things I know I will not be able to follow through on I’m making some requests of God. I’m taking Him up on His promise in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me and I will show you great and mighty things that you do not know.”
Lord, this year I want to see you with new eyes.
Show me when instead of listening to you, I listen to lies.
Give me a greater hunger for your precious word.
With praises to you let my mind be stirred.
Change me, grow me, purify my heart.
Open me up to how incredibly Great thou Art
